Why prior procedures and medicines matter before an aesthetic visit

Bring your treatment history and medicine list so the clinician can assess risks and plan the visit.

Write down your treatment history

List earlier filler or wrinkle injections, lasers, resurfacing, surgery, scar procedures, and the approximate dates and areas. Bring product names if you have them; do not guess when you do not. Prior work can affect anatomy, photographs, and which change is possible now. The ASPS consultation checklist specifically asks about previous minimally invasive procedures and facial surgery.

Include current skin and health factors

Mention recent tanning, active irritation, acne treatment, scarring tendencies, allergies, and all medicines or supplements. The AAD asks laser hair-removal patients about recent tans, certain medications, cold sores, and keloids. For filler, the FDA advises disclosure of inflamed or infected skin and relevant allergies. The clinician decides which details change timing or eligibility.

Ask what changes the plan

Invite the clinician to explain whether an old product must be identified, whether a condition needs treatment first, or whether another professional should review a medical concern. Do not stop prescribed treatment on the basis of a web checklist. Ask for the specific preparation instructions that apply to the service ultimately chosen.

Questions and answers

I cannot remember an old filler brand. What now?

Tell the clinician what you know, including area and approximate date, and ask whether records from the prior practice would help.
