What to watch for after facial filler

Keep your filler record and aftercare instructions, and know which symptoms the FDA says need immediate medical attention.

Leave with the record

After Radiesse or another filler, keep the product name, lot if provided, areas treated, date, and the clinic’s written instructions. Confirm when a routine review should occur after swelling settles. The FDA notes that bruising and swelling are common short-term effects, but it also describes less common and serious complications.

Recognize urgent symptoms

The FDA advises immediate medical attention for unusual pain, vision changes, white, gray, or blue skin near the injection site, or stroke-like symptoms during or shortly after filler injection. Ask the clinic to explain its direct emergency contact and escalation process before the procedure. Do not wait for a scheduled cosmetic follow-up if those signs occur.

Review the settled result

At the ordinary follow-up, compare photographs in similar light and discuss symmetry, remaining goals, and whether more product is justified. Ask whether a new injection would have separate risks and cost. Report delayed nodules or inflammation even if the initial result looked fine; the FDA notes that some filler reactions can appear later. Before leaving, ask exactly how to reach help after hours. A routine message to the office may not be read promptly enough for an urgent concern.
