Start with your skin history
The clinic lists PicoWay for its Tight and Bright facial and Aerolase for acne, scars, and hair removal. Tell the clinician about previous pigment changes, tanning, recent sun exposure, scarring, and any reaction to a prior laser. The AAD notes that skin color and other patient factors affect laser planning and that darker skin can develop lasting light or dark marks after an ill-suited procedure.
Ask about the chosen device
Ask the clinician to name the device and explain what it is intended to treat. A description such as laser facial leaves those details unanswered. Ask how settings are selected for your skin, whether a test spot or a different approach is appropriate, and what outcome is realistic for the concern. A device’s ability to treat multiple conditions does not mean one setting treats all of them.
Plan for follow-up
Get written instructions for sun protection and what changes should prompt a call. Ask how the clinic will assess progress and adjust future sessions if pigment, irritation, or incomplete response appears. If the answer is only that the laser is suitable for every skin tone, request more detail about individual risk and the clinician’s experience.
Questions and answers
Is one laser safe for every person?
No device label replaces an individual skin and risk assessment. Ask how the proposed settings and follow-up plan apply to you.
