How to judge a laser acne treatment series

Keep a record of breakouts and products between visits, with agreed checkpoints for continuing or changing treatment.

Set a baseline

Before the first Aerolase acne session, note the number and type of breakouts that concern you, current products, and recent flare pattern. Standardized photographs help more than memory because acne naturally rises and falls. Ask whether the proposed series is aimed at inflammatory lesions, redness, or another target, and when an initial response should be assessed.

Agree on progress checkpoints

The clinic describes progressive results, while the AAD says multiple laser or light treatments are commonly needed and improvement is variable. Ask what would count as enough change to continue and what would prompt a different plan. A single quiet week should not be mistaken for durable control, and one flare does not automatically prove failure.

Review the plan before continuing

If new deep lesions or scars appear, ask whether the clinician should coordinate with a dermatologist for additional treatment. Keep the quote and interval for every remaining visit clear. At the end of the initial series, discuss maintenance separately from treatment of existing scars; those are different goals and may require different services.

Questions and answers

What should I track between sessions?

Record lesion type, new painful breakouts, products used, and photos in similar light; review them with the clinician.
