Preparing for a laser hair-removal consultation

Bring your hair and skin history to a laser consultation, then get preparation instructions for the proposed device.

Collect a short history

Note the treatment area, hair color and coarseness, skin tone, recent tanning, prior lasers, scarring tendency, keloids, cold sores, and all medicines. The AAD lists these as relevant topics for a laser hair-removal consultation. Bring photographs if waxing or shaving has caused irritation, but ask the clinician to diagnose bumps rather than assuming every bump is an ingrown hair.

Confirm the device and pre-care

Marie Jé lists Laser Quick Hair Removal and describes Aerolase on its service menu. Ask which device will actually be used at your appointment and whether instructions differ for your skin and hair. The AAD advises avoiding tanning and following a clinician’s specific pre-treatment directions. Do not stop medicine or change a prescribed skin regimen without the relevant prescriber’s advice.

Plan the first review

Ask how to prepare the hair in the days before treatment, what eye protection is used, and what aftercare and sun precautions apply. Confirm the proposed interval, what the first session can and cannot show, and a complete area-specific quote. If your hair is light or fine, discuss expected response before buying a package.

Questions and answers

Should I wax right before treatment?

Ask the treating clinician for a timeline tailored to the device and area; follow the written instructions they give for your treatment area and device.
