Ask the clinician to classify the mark and explain whether the proposed laser addresses texture, color, or both. Mention any tendency toward thick or keloid scarring.
Ask about alternatives
The AAD lists several approaches to acne scars, including lasers, microneedling, fillers, and procedures for selected scar types. It notes that some lasers require more sessions than others. The clinic’s menu does not imply it offers every alternative. Ask when referral or another approach would be more suitable than the available service, especially for a deep tethered scar.
Agree on the change to assess
Ask whether the intended result is softening, flattening, or blending rather than complete erasure. Agree on photographs that show the scar under the same side lighting and a point for reassessment. Request the number of sessions and full quote before starting, and ask what changes would lead the clinician to stop or change course.
